Manufacturers and distributors of all sizes increasingly face challenges that result from globalization in the marketplace. This has a direct effect on the company's ability to efficiently and effectively produce and maintain currency of OSHA or WHMIS 2.0 SDSs, labels and hazard communication documents for their products. Effective, compliant and up-to-date documents, especially SDSs, are not only a global requirement, but serve as the critical centerpiece for enabling effective product stewardship practices throughout the product's lifecycle. In today's environment, merely producing an SDS is not enough. Quality, accuracy and currency are critical components to fulfilling the original intentions for requiring documentation in the first place.

SDS Formats

We have the expertise to author SDSs to meet various regulations currently required to market your products internationally. Listed below are the standard formats we currently offer:

  • North American GHS Ready

The 'North American GHS Ready' SDS is a 16-section SDS that follows the United Nation's (UN's) recommended 16 heading Safety Data Sheet (SDS) format, from the standard for the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling. These SDS's not only follow the UN's GHS SDS format for the arrangement of sections, but their content also follows current U.S. OSHA and Canadian WHMIS regulatory requirements. Once the GHS is finalized in Canadian and the U.S. regulatory law, these 'North American GHS Ready' SDS's will only require minor content updates to amend hazard information and terminology found in the SDS to match GHS classification schemes.

  • European REACH SDS

The European REACH SDS is a 16 section Safety Data Sheet (SDS) that complies with the European Union's (EU's) Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), Annex II (as amended). This European REACH SDS also has an arrangement of sections that is similar to the UN's GHS arrangement of sections, with slightly different section names. The EU REACH SDS is now available only for chemical products that are mixtures, with classifications based on Directives 67/548/EEC and 1999/45/EC, as amended, for the classification, packaging and labelling of dangerous preparations.

  • European REACH / GHS (or CLP)

The European REACH / GHS (or CLP) SDS is a 16-section Safety Data Sheet (SDS) that also complies with the EU's REACH Regulation, Annex II (as amended). This European REACH / GHS (or CLP) SDS, again, also has an arrangement of sections that is similar to the UN's GHS arrangement of sections, with slightly different section names. This EU REACH / GHS (or CLP) SDS is now required for pure substances, and is optional (by request) for chemical products that are mixtures.(all SDS must comply with GHS before June 1, 2015) These SDS's provide classifications based on the EU's Regulation No. 1272/2008 for the classification, labelling and packaging of pure substances and mixtures, as amended. EU Regulation No. 1272/2008 is the EU's amendment of existing regulations to incorporate the UN's GHS.

  • Australia GHS
These 16-section documents comply with the requirements outlined in the regulations. Manufacturers and importers of chemicals are able to continue to use the existing MSDS arrangements for workplace hazardous substances and dangerous goods up until 31 December 2016.

    Asia Pacific SDS

Many of the Asia pacific countries including China and Japan have adopted the GHS regulations into their hazard communication requirements.
We can help ensure that your SDS meet these requirements. Ask us how.

Do you have new products to market? What about products that have no previous SDS available? Let us take on the task of writing SDSs for your products. Simply tell us which regulations you have to comply with, provide some minimal additional information and we will create the SDS from scratch for full compliance. Based on your needs, we will ensure that all the necessary fields and phrases are on your SDSs – so that you may create a safety compliance program with complete and accurate information.

The update is available for customers who have SDSs done by us. If you don't have SDSs done by us, don't worry – ask us about our SDS reformats.
